RSPB Investigations priorities
We prioritise crimes involving species and issues of the highest conservation concern (as summarised in our 'How to report crimes' page). These include:
-
Crimes against wild birds of prey, owls or Ravens – particularly shooting, trapping, poisoning or nest destruction.
-
Suspected wildlife poisoning where birds are victims or vulnerable (for example, a poisoned bait placed in the countryside).
-
Egg collecting or trading in birds’ eggs or chicks.
-
A dead/injured bird of prey found in suspicious circumstances.
-
Offences against Schedule 1 birds (and A1 and 1A birds in Scotland)

Please note, if your case does not relate to our priorities, you may wish to contact alternative organisations or the police, depending on the issue. See below for more information and useful links:

Nest disturbance
If hedges or trees are being cut or removed whilst a nest is being built or is in use, please contact the police on 101. Ask to speak to a Wildlife Crime Officer who has the authority to investigate and take further action if necessary.
Gulls
Please note all gulls are protected by law, so if they have already started to nest on your roof then it is illegal to damage, destroy or remove the nest and eggs without a licence.
